Ask for a sleep study; MSLT in particular because you suspect Narcolepsy. (Multiple Sleep Latency Test) after they do the initial sleep study (for sleep apnea). Make sure the order includes MSLT before you go and waste your time and money. And do not do an in home test; tell them you specifically want to do it at a sleep lab. In home tests are VERY inaccurate and much less data collected.
My doctor did not take me seriously - now he is out 'indefinitely' so I am being reassigned to a new doctor - another neurologist. My PCP'S office did refer me to a sleep specialist - I go to that appointment on June 1st. I have to 'start over' with a Neurologist at UC Davis. I am beyond frustrated because I had an incident where a client perceived that I was impaired. I believe it was a combination of being in pain from oral surgery and narcolepsy. It is impacting my career now. The doctors do not take me seriously - they seem to think that, because I am 72, my quality of life is behind me. It is so wrong for them to not listen to me - so I am going to see both doctors to see if either one takes me seriously. I am beyond tired!!
Have you already been diagnosed with Narcolepsy? Can you make your question a little more specific?
And read about the test retest reliability of the test. It surprised me.
