Has Perimenopause Or Menopause Affected Your Narcolepsy Symptoms?
A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Narcolepsy. I've also just started perimenopause, which from what I've read can also disrupt your sleep. I'm curious if others have noticed a change in their narcolepsy symptoms once they started to go through peri-menopause or menopause, and how they dealt with it.

Yes. My symptoms became significantly worse after onset of surgical menopause.

It’s been nearly 40 years ago that I had a hysterectomy. Then I was on hormone replacement for 25+ years. Now you are adding it up ….. yes, 80 years old….. I didn’t have a problem that I can remember. Oh, even with narcolepsy, I still drive, just not long trips like we used to make. My husband watches me and, if I blink my eyes too slowly, tells me to wake up.

I have not driven since I was 30 years old because of my narcolepsy. I had to surrender my drivers license when I was diagnosed with narcolepsy. I am almost 64 years old.
