Members rallied around someone overwhelmed by multiple serious health conditions who asked about their chances of qualifying for disability benefits and whether they could apply without losing their housing. Several members strongly recommended applying with a disability lawyer from the start, emphasizing that attorneys work on contingency (paid only if approved), that applicants can continue working part-time during the process, and that back pay is awarded from the initial filing date even if the first application is denied. A recurring theme was the emotional reassurance that approval is possible, with members sharing their own successful outcomes after long waits, and urging the person to stay hopeful, keep thorough medical records, and lean on their doctors for support throughout the process.

You can still work while applying. My husband was recently approved. My advice, the first thing you need to do is get a lawyer!! It will take time to be approved, and you will almost likely be denied the first time, but you appeal and when/if you get approved, you get back pay from the initial file date. You can actually still work after you are approved, it just has to be under a certain amount of hours. make sure you talk with your doctor(s) about it and get them on board and keep good records. You can message me through FB or here(not sure) if you want to ask anymore questions. I did a lot of research while we waited, but I wish I would have known to get a lawyer first! You never have to pay them, the disability will once you get approved. Btw my last name on fb is Barnes

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and sleep disorder back in 2008 and Dr would not let me go back to work because I couldn't stay awake. I filed for disability and drew on my SS till I was approved for disability in 2009. I wasn't going to be able to even go for my hearing about my disability so my lawyer talk for me and I was approved just mainly on the Fibromyalgia. Hope this helped some....just get a good disability lawyer and you shouldn't have any problems. I didn't. God Bless
