Diagnosed with narcolepsy 21 years ago. Moved to a new state. Had to apply for Medicaid which took time but once approved I finally was able to get into a sleep doctor. I’ve brought with me documentation of every prescription I’ve been provided for the past 21 years. Yet she refuses to prescribe me the medicine I need to survive until another sleep study is performed. She knows I only have 3 pills left. She said she would expedite the sleep study however as soon as they can get me in is… read more
Keep looking for another Dr. Also with being a medicaid patient I run into alot of medical neglect. If one doesn't help move on quickly to the next Dr because if you wait for the Dr to help you will never get the help you need. I waited 12 years after my first sleep study that he ignored which said severe central sleep apnea. I could have died. I tried to complain but he retired. Don't make the same mistakes I did. Demand your worth. Hugs
Boy, it often seems that way , doesn't it? I moved to another state after a Medicare advisor said I would have no difficulty getting qualified for Medicaid in my new state. I took the plunge and relocated.
Not only do I NOT qualify for Medicaid here, but on occasion, I have had to deal with being out of meds for over 3 months at a time due to dealing with new doctors, etc., who seem to casually dismiss a 22 year history of living -- and being treated -- for Narcolepsy.
I agree with the comments suggesting you run -- don't walk -- to find a new provider. I hope that you can find some comfort in the fact that you, personally, shouldn't feel that you have an exclusive on indifferent doctors!
Try to expand your support systems -- friends, groups that meet, etc. I know that when I tried to focus on multiple ideas, I frequently failed at all of them! Learning to prioritize what is most important -- it's a real learning curve, but you can do it!
I think I would present it to the chief of staff or the Medical Board in a letter format asking them to please do a chart review and advise you of their recommendations. Or ask your previous provider, if he can contact your new provider to discuss this important issue.
That may get the ball rolling?! If you are feeling that you can’t go another day without your meds, there is always the ED. I know, long waits, but they may be able to give you a weeks worth. Are you able to request a provider change? Or speak with a case manager?
I’m sorry you are dealing with this. Keep us posted. I’m hoping one of the doors will open for you!

That’s frustrating. Did you fil out a ‘Release of Medical Records’ from your last provider? Maybe then, your new provider might write an RX for the amount you need?
