I recently had my doctor say there is nothing else they can do medically for my narcolepsy; so I need to make lifestyle changes. One is exercising and I always feel to worn out or tired to do that. Honestly, my energy is used up doing household chores or other daily tasks that need done. The other recommended life changes I already do or am working on. But this is the big one that I have been told over and over to do and I struggle. :(
I've struggled with that as well. How can you exercise when tired! It's been tough but I found I can do it more regularly by doing exercise videos on YouTube. I gave up trying to be a gym person, it just didn't work for me. Some days it might just be a 10-15 minute video that is super basic, but I find even can help. Some of the channels I like include SeniorShape Fitness and Body Project.
I play music and that gives me the little boost I need to get started. Plus I only do very short sessions, 10-20 minutes. At work, I do 10-20 squats when I use the restroom. (That adds up because I drink a ton of water so I'm frequenting the bathroom often!)
I hate exercising but I can't deny the positive effects. I allow myself to stop after 5 minutes if I still feel too tired once I get started. Getting started seems to be the biggest hurdle.
Thank you for the advice I am still trying to figure out how I can not use up all the energy with exercise and still get what I need done during the day.
@Wolfemom53, I understand what you're saying totally. My theory is and what I do is listen to music mostly....why because I'm already exhausted from work as a CNA you get plenty of exercise 😀.
I also use the table water fountains, the noise helps me relax, wind down from my day. My Meds are out of my system by 5:00 pm, I struggle because I'm sleepy now.
I hope you find something that will work for you.🙏🏾❣️
Hello ladies, my doctor still has me on medication but feels he has tried what he felt would work and I seem to not be getting very far with any of the medication.. Regarding lifestyle changes the one I believe everyone has heard is to exercise (Which is hard like I said), moving past that one he has recommended proper sleep hygiene (like having the room as dark as possible, possibly read a book a half hour before bed, set a regular wake-up and sleep time, etc..), I have seasonal affective disorder; so he recommends me using my light box in the morning and exercise in the morning, try to get my nap in; but only for 20to 30 minutes.. Stuff like that.
He tells me the most important thing is to try and get a regular night sleep and exercise.
