Alcohol And Narcolepsy

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Lake Arrowhead, CA

My grandmother had narcolepsy and cataplexy. I have always been able to drink alcohol with no problem except for the last 5-7 years. It’s almost like a light switch one minute I feel fine and the next I’m totally passed out and don’t remember anything until I wake up the next morning. Could this be related to narcolepsy? My sister does the exact same thing.

I’ve only drank liquor and I was fine. It actually had the opposite affect on me

It may be the sugars in it. I always ended up "blacking out" faster with beers and fruity beers than I would with liquor. And now it turns out that sugars and starches are a major trigger for my symptoms
