I have type 1 with pretty severe cataplexy. My doctor advised me to have a set consistent sleep schedule and take naps. These somewhat help but still would appreciate to hear how others with narcolepsy cope with the condition. Thank you and have a blessed day ♡
A VERY strict sleep schedule. Going to bed at the same time every night, getting up at the same time every day, regardless of what I have going on the next day. Taking meds at the same time every day/night. Schedule naps during the day. So, for me, I know I typically hit a wall around 130-2 ish, so I plan to either be doing something mindless that I don't REALLY need to be 'conscious' for, or even better, I plan to just take a nap at that time of day.
I have others I am sure that I can't think of now, if these don't help or you want me let me know I can try to come up with more. If you have a specific time frame or situation you want to know how to handle specificly I can give my two cents for that too. :)
Ditto!
Hello! I don't have Type 1, but Type 2, and one of the things I have learned over the last few years of managing narcolepsy, is that I need frequent rest breaks. I don't need to nap, but I do need to allow myself to sit down with minimal distractions and just be. I find that even 5 or 10 minutes of doing this, gives me a little energy boost but OfCourse multiple times throughout the day if life allows. Usually if I am feeling off or super fatigued, that's my inclination that I need to take a quick break.
