I Have Narcolepsy. My Medication Isn't Working Anymore.
A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I was prescribed provigil 200 mg 2 x day 16 years ago. It worked great for 13 years. About 3 years ago around 2 pm my medication had wore off. So I started taking 3 tablets a day (600) mg. So I had medication for 20 days and suffered the last 10 days because I didn't think my doctor would prescribe 3 a day
Now my problem is provigil tolerance. One day it works and most days it doesn't. Has any one that has taken this for a long period had this to happen to them? Any suggestions on what I need… read more

AndreaFlores,
Thank you for your help. I've called all the pharmacies in my area and ask the pharmacists if anyone else taking modafinil complains of this and they said yes all of them do.
I just remembered the fear I had in 2017. Thats when I received a letter because I had taken provigil so long. The generic version hadn't come out yet and the 2 manufacturers were being sued in a class action lawsuit. Cephalon and teva. I believe all 50 states won the lawsuit against these 2 manufacturers I believe it was because a generic wasn't offered yet and the extremely high cost of medication. I remember thinking the medication that worked so well will soon be hard to get and I was right.
I believe you can still get provigil name brand from both of these manufacturers you would have to google how I have forgot what I read about it last week. Most pharmacies in my area are chain pharmacies and can't order from a certain manufacturers they just order the medication they don't have that option is what they told me. I told them I didn't think the chemist or whomever makes the generic of provigil from any manufacturers are making modafinil properly. If they were it would work as well as name brand.

I take 2x a day provigil 200mg and yes I have been taking it for 1 year and now they wear off so fast and if i eat even a small meal I get super sleepy even after just taking the pill.
I have to take it with an energy drink.
They told me xyrem is better and only one pill a day. I will ask my neurologist about it.

I was on provigil for close to 15 years. It worked fine the majority of the time. I upped my dosage very early on and stayed on the same amount (400mg) for the majority of the time. Recently though it just didn't feel like it was working as well. I talked to my doctor and he switched me to Nuvigil. I haven't noticed a huge improvement but it does feel better than towards the end when I was on Provigil. Your doctor should be open to switching you to something else since tolerance can definitely happen.

I asked my doctor specifically yesterday wether or not generic was different than name brand he said it could be a "little" different but....not really a difference.?. Something like that. He didn't expand on the answer. Sooo..still...?.. πŸ€”
All I know is it does not seem to be working for me.
