Have you noticed your cataplexy becoming more sensitive after a particularly severe episode?

Yes, this can happen. Stress and poor sleep are known to worsen cataplexy, and a bad episode can create a cycle where you're more vulnerable to additional attacks for some time afterward.

A MyNarcolepsyTeam member shared a similar experience: "I am having an issue where it seems like strong emotions ... even happiness causes the cataplexy." Another member noted, "I have had several sleep attacks with cataplexy today already. Mostly due to negative emotions, as I'm in a bad mood."

When your body goes through a severe cataplexy attack, it can leave you in a heightened state where triggers that might normally be manageable can set off episodes more easily. This increased sensitivity may last days or even longer.

Here are some strategies that might help:

- Keep a record of your cataplexy episodes and potential triggers to share with your healthcare provider
- Focus on stress management techniques
- Prioritize good sleep hygiene during this vulnerable period
- Be gentle with yourself and recognize this is part of managing your condition

If you're experiencing prolonged increased sensitivity or more frequent episodes, it's worth discussing with your doctor whether adjustments to your treatment plan might help.

I have the same thing! Sleeping at night is next to impossible for me; I'm very lucky if I get more than 4 hours a night. During the day though, I fall asleep doing almost everything. It's such a challenge. I'm so sorry you're going through this too. I find that when I take scheduled naps during the day, that seems to help, and also I recently started xywav and it helps me get better sleep at night as well. I'm getting ready to start Wakix for during the day so I guess we'll see how that goes ... Have you spoken to your Dr about meds yet?
