Is There Anything That Helps You To Lead A Normal(er) Life?

Is There Anything That Helps You To Lead A Normal(er) Life?

Have had a diagnosis of narcolepsy with cataplexy for about 10 years. While sleep was always important to me, I never knew it was narcolepsy until I started collapsing at work. I was embarrassed at what was happening and withdrew from life to continue to hide it. I did my research and suspected cataplexy. A couple of doctor visits later it was confirmed. What to do about it? Doctor prescribed Xyrem at night. Took some getting used to, but it helps with sleep. Crazy, a narcoleptic needs… read more

My cataplexy is so severe I had to go on disability. I'm currently on Medicare and not eligible for their programs. I do not respond to stimulants so Wakix sounds like a miracle drug! I looked at… read more

What Narcolepsy Meds Work For You?

What Narcolepsy Meds Work For You?

I've tried almost all of the narcolepsy meds and nothing worked. I'm on Adderall 20mg 3 times a day... which barely work all day, and I take Trazodone 150mg at night (which work great) to sleep.

Wakix has had the biggest impact on my narcolepsy! Modafinil, Adderall, and Ritalin have also been beneficial, but not nearly as much as Wakix.

Has Anybody Had Better Results With WAKIX Vs. Combination Of SUNOSI And XYWAV?

Has Anybody Had Better Results With WAKIX Vs. Combination Of SUNOSI And XYWAV?

I am currently taking SUNOSI during the day and tried to switch to WAKIX because of my cataplexy and sleep paralysis. My insurance would not approve WAKIX until I tried XYWAV so I started XYWAV. I find it almost ridiculous that XYWAV is twice nightly dosing! My anxiety is worse and affecting my overall sleep because half the time I can't get that second dose accomplished between 1-2 am.

I know the feeling but xywav changed my life completely!! That being said I created an automated system to make sure I took my second dose, basically it starts the timer as soon as I take the first… read more

Please be careful, I just read the drug interactions and it does not interact well with hormonal meds such as birth control or post menopause hormones. I unfortunately can’t use it.

Change your sleep routine to be the same every night. Get good nutrition, drink plenty of water, & no junk food. Find a good supplement like Dr. Schulze's Superfood, (my fav energy booster.)

Xyrem To Xywave

Xyrem To Xywave

Has anyone changed from xyrem to xywave? What is your experience with either of them? Both have changed the taste, and what foods I eat, has that happened to you?

My sleep doc is big into clinical trials, so I've been in a few. I was in the one for Xyrem, in 2000, I think. (It was approved in July 2002.) When you're in a clinical trial, if the drug is finally… read more

What Do You Take For Treatment?

What Do You Take For Treatment?

Over the years I've avoided the doctors after being diagnosed to avoid loosing my license. So I mega dose caffeine. So that is my medication for now. It's tricky and one day will probably kill me. It has resulted in high blood pressure and crazy heart problems, but it kinda works. What's yours and does it work?

I take Vyvanse 50 mg. every day, for about 2 yrs. It's expensive, but the alternative is staying in bed with no urge to do anything. I have other issues, mostly chronic back pain, for which I take… read more

Nuvigil- Will I For Sure Eventually Need To Add Medications?

Nuvigil- Will I For Sure Eventually Need To Add Medications?

I have read many stories online of people doing well on Nuvigil for awhile, but then as time goes on having to add a "booster" medication halfway through the day. I want to know if I should expect this, or not. Has anyone been on Nuvigil for a long time with no decrease in effectiveness? Some sources also suggest taking a couple days off the medicine to curb resistance. Has anyone had experience with that?

I have taken Nuvigil & Adderall for around 12+ years now. They both work good still, but it also depends on what I'm doing that day & how active I am. Also it doesn't matter sometimes if I've taken… read more

I can't continue to live like this and my sleep Dr didn't pay any attention and just made me an appt for next year!! I'm so frustrated.
