Does Cataplexy Worsen?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Milwaukee, NC

I have small episodes of cataplexy when I laugh my knees buckle, and sometimes when I force myself to wake up when my body is not ready my knees and neck weaken. I have never had a bad enough episode that I fell down completely, I worry that my cataplexy will worsen over time? Anybody with severe cataplexy start off with small episodes like these?

I have narcolepsy 2 and sleep apnea. Using the CPAP didn't make a significant difference in daytime sleepines but it's better for my heart to use it. So, I do, even though the masks irritate my skin.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I was diagnosed 21 years ago when I was 28. It took years to get to the diagnosis because my lack of cataplexy symptoms made it harder, in fact they tried to say I… read more

Would You Say You Have Good Days And Bad Days With Narcolepsy?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been on Modafinil for over a year. My doctor finally sent me to a sleep specialist and I will have my sleep study and mslt in a couple weeks. I never feel fully rested, but there are some days that I can’t go more than 2-3 hours without a nap. I get very drowsy and my eyelids get heavy. On my bad days, this happens every 2-3hrs all day long.

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Italy, TX

Dear members

I can't figure out if my problem is getting worse. Sleepiness is always the same. As far as I can remember I have had narcolepsy since I was 16 now I am 42. My cataplexy has always been of very short duration, I would say a fraction of a second and it involves… read more

Long Or Short Sleepbreaks?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Gothenburg, NE

Hello. My son is 11 years old and was diagnosed when he was 7 years old. I have a question about rest during his school day. Today he rests for an hour around 11. I wonder if you would prefer several short sleep breaks instead of one longer one? Do you feel as rested after 60 minutes as after 15 minutes?

My son does not take any medication and school works well and he has good support from his teachers.
